Presenter Rob Fowler

Rob Fowler will give a brief history of Humboldt County ornithology and birding, noting some of the special birding locations and species that are unique or special to Humboldt County. He will also share some of the most interesting species that have shown up in the County over the years that are attracting birders from far and wide.

Rob moved to Humboldt County in 2003 to pursue his bachelor's degree in Wildlife from Humboldt State University (now Cal Poly Humboldt) and loved the area so much that he never left! He moved to Humboldt for college, but deep down it was really for the birding since Humboldt is one of the best coastal counties in California for our hobby/profession. Since moving to Humboldt Rob has been an active member of the birding community taking on many roles, including eBird reviewer as a North American Birds subregional editor, and has been a board member and field trip coordinator for Redwood Regional Audubon Society. Present day, Rob is a voting member on the California Bird Records Committee and is a contractor with the local Godwit Days Spring Migration Bird Festival, organizing all of the field trips for the festival (over 60 field trips this year!). Since 2013 Rob has guided birders locally in Northwestern California with his private company, Fowlerope Birding Tours. When not birding Rob spends time with his family and plays mandolin in a local bluegrass band, Fickle Hill.
