Leader: Stephanie Floyd
The birding at Garin is so great right now, we want to share it with everyone! Introducing our first "pop-up" field trip. Short notice, but if you're up for some last-minute summer birding, join us. Once the marine layer burns off mid-morning, the park fills with bird song - vireos, warblers, flycatchers, grosbeaks, etc. Many birds are nesting or are chaperoning fledglings (bluebirds, swallows, finches, orioles). This morning a hard-to-find Grasshopper Sparrow was on the fence above the kite field, buzzing away! A great opportunity to practice birding by ear. Let's see what we can find. To reach the park, take Garin Avenue east, towards the hills, from Mission Blvd. in Hayward. Look for the leader (binoculars, OAS ball cap) near the bridge over the creek in the southern parking lot. No fee to park mid-week. - SF
