Nestled between vineyards on the southern end of Livermore, Sycamore Grove Park is a rich riparian zone downstream from Lake Del Valle Reservoir. Late May is the tail end of passerine migration, so we'll be looking for warblers, tanagers, and especially flycatchers, with as many as nine species of flycatcher possible to see here in May. Nesting birds should be very active, as well. We might also see some east county specialties, like Yellow-billed Magpie, Lawrence's Goldfinch, and Phainopepla. Trails are mostly flat and we'll be walking about 3 miles total. Pre-registration is not required, and all are welcome.
Directions: Take I-580 east to the CA-84/Isabel Ave exit in Livermore. Turn right on Isabel Ave and follow it south for about 3 miles, then turn left on E Vineyard Ave and take that for about a mile, then left on Vallecitos Rd, and a right on Wetmore Rd. Parking is $5 per vehicle, so consider carpooling, if possible.
