Virtual October Membership Meeting: Bird Watching in Hong Kong!
Tuesday 05 October 2021, 07:30pm
Hits : 1157

Presenters: Kenneth Lam and James Kwok

Location: Virtual meeting via Zoom

Despite Hong Kong’s compact size and reputation as a “concrete jungle”, the territory has an extraordinarily high level of biodiversity since Hong Kong has thousands of square kilometers of rugged coastline, mountain ranges and country parks. So not surprisingly it is home to an impressive range of wildlife. Straddling the transition zone between the tropics and the temperate region, its biodiversity is greater than usually found in such a small area. What is more, few places in the world allow people to travel from the city center to the middle of the natural world in the space of an hour or less.

This talk on bird watching in Hong Kong by The Hong Kong Bird Watching Society (HKBWS) will bring you to different habitats in Hong Kong and know more about the background of Hong Kong, common bird species and bird watching tips in the mentioned habitats.

Bio of the speakers:
Kenneth Lam, Regional Programme Officer, HKBWS, Master of Science in Environmental Management, The University of Hong Kong.

Kenneth is a keen birder and butterfly watcher who travels around the world to explore the beauty of nature. He is now collaborating with different partners along East Asia-Australasia Flyway on migratory and threatened bird conservation in the region.

James Kwok, Outreach Officer, HKBWS, Bachelor of Science (Honors) in Applied Biology – Environmental Science Concentration, Hong Kong Baptist University

James is a passionate birder since his childhood. He loves all things nature, and spend most of his time exploring the wilderness side of Hong Kong. James currently works in the Hong Kong Bird Watching Society organizing talks and tours to promote bird watching in Hong Kong.
