Field Trip Report

The OAS Summer Mountain Campout

Lassen and Burney Falls Area

The weekend of June 26-27, 2004 couldn't have had nicer weather in southern Cascade country. Flowers were ample, albeit snow still packed several of our planned walks. Folks were still trekking to the top of 10451 ft. Mount Lassen, well above the Mountain Hemlocks and White-barked Pines that we saw from the trailhead at 8,450 ft. Sixteen OAS members and guests enjoyed the weekend day itinerary planned by leaders Phil and Pat Gordon. Most of the species found during the preview plus additional species were located on the Field Trip. The total for the trip (including two found after the weekend by Ray Fontaine) was 90 bird species. Mammals, butterflies, dragonflies and plants were also noted by many folks, not all being identified.
