Come join us in search of the elusive Mountain Plovers in SE Solano County, near Dixon. In recent weeks there have been sightings of Mountain Plovers, Ferruginous Hawks, and a Short-eared Owl. We will do our best to hunt for these special winter time visitors. There also should be numerous sightings of other wintering raptors, burrowing owls, and horned larks. Note that there are no restrooms along the route and bring a snack/bag lunch. Depending on our success, we may poke into Jepson Prairie after lunch (restrooms available.) Heavy rain cancels.
Directions: Meet 8 AM at Suisun City McDonald’s, Hwy 12 and Sunset Avenue. Take I-680 north, cross bridge to Benicia (toll) and merge to I-80 east at Cordelia. Take Hwy 12 E (Exit 43) toward Rio Vista for four miles to Sunset Avenue. Turn left at the light into the shopping center. McDonald’s is on the right. From there we will head east on hwy 12 to Hwy 113 and Robinson Road. As an alternative, you can meet us at 8:30 AM at the intersection of Hwy 113 and Robinson Road, south of the city of Dixon.
