Our May program presentation is by Andrea Jones on the new three-pronged management plan for Salton Sea. Andrea Jones is the Director of Bird Conservation for Audubon California. Audubon California is securing a home for birds at the Salton Sea through a three-pronged approach. First, through habitat mapping and analysis to support at-risk bird populations. Second, through public engagement via the Audubon network to raise awareness about the issues at the Salton Sea and to demonstrate to the public that, with intensive action and proper management, the Salton Sea can continue to be critically important for birds and a healthy place for people to live. Third, through policy, Audubon is building on its history of policy successes in Sacramento by helping to encourage the State of California to keep its promise to the people of Riverside and Imperial counties while also preserving a vital place for birds of the Pacific Flyway.
Andrea leads the coastal programs and works with staff and local chapters to implement conservation projects at high priority Important Bird Areas (IBAs), such as the Salton Sea. She oversees efforts in priority bird species and serves as a spokeswoman for bird conservation across California. Prior to California, Andrea worked at Massachusetts Audubon where she served as the Director of the Coastal Waterbird Program. Andrea received her M.S. in Wildlife Conservation/Ornithology and her B.S. in Wildlife Biology and Management from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. She is a past board member for her local Audubon chapter, Morro Coast Audubon and currently resides in the East Bay of San Francisco.

From I-880, take the Davis Street exit, head east, passing under BART track. Go through light at E. 14th St. (Davis becomes Callan). Continue 1 1/2 blocks to the library on right. We will meet in the Karp room.
